Day 16: Parque Nacional Yosemite / Yosemite National Park

Nos levantamos tranquilamente, desayunamos y por fin pusimos una lavadora!!! Comprobamos que no había ningún oso a la vista y condujimos hasta el parque Yosemite. Fuimos hacia la entrada este del parque y las vistas ya empezaban a ser espectaculares, varios lagos y montañas, un paisaje bastante diferente al de ayer. Por cierto, por esta entrada no vimos rastro del gran incendio que ha habido este verano.

We woke up in the morning, had some breakfast, and finally did some laundry! Fortunately for us, no bears attacked the car while we slept, so we started towards Yosemite National Park. We came in through the east entrance, and immediately the views were amazing. We were surrounded by mountains and crystal blue lakes, quite the change from yesterday! As you can see from the pictures, we saw no trace of the wildfire.

Esta vez íbamos con más tranquilidad al centro de información porque nos imáginamos que no iba a haber problema para encontrar parcela en alguno de los camping del parque, hay un montón, aunque había varios cerrados por el incendio. Y, efectivamente, nos dieron un sitio en el camping  "Crane flat" que está a una hora del centro de reservas; así que con la reserva ya hecha decidimos ir a ver parte del parque antes de montar la tienda. 

We took our time getting to the information center since we figured we wouldn't have trouble finding a campsite, given it was midweek and there are tons of sites at Yosemite. We went to the information center and reserved a spot at the Crane Flat campground, a campground near the valley. The information center was still about an hour away from the campground, so we took our time getting there, stopping at several lakes and even getting a good hike in.

También hicimos una caminata hasta el lago May, un poco más pequeño, pero precioso también. En este lago vimos que se podía acampar, pero pidiendo un permiso con antelación. Cerca de este punto estaba el camping, por lo que decidimos pasar y poner la tienda de campaña. Nos gustó bastante, parcelas espaciosas y tampoco muy pegados a los vecinos; bueno... una pega, sobre todo para Martin (estoy descubriendo que es bastante tiquismiquis para algunas cosas...jeje...), había bastante polvo por la arena del suelo. 

We hiked up to May lake, slightly smaller than Tenaya. When we arrived there we realized you could camp right on the lake, but you needed a permit. Maybe next time :-) Our campground was the next stop, and we quickly set up the tent before heading to the valley. The campground was really nice, except it was really dusty (happens in a drought) and it got into everything.

Con la tienda ya montada, quisimos ir a comprar algo para cenar. Al ir hacia allí pasamos por otro punto importante del parque, "El capitán", una roca enorme de granito; estábamos sacando fotos cuando nos dimos cuenta que había una persona!!! Se veía un mini punto rojo y con el zoom de la cámara pudimos ver que se trataba de una persona que estaba acampando allí, increíble! Sabíamos que era enorme la roca, pero con esa referencia era más espectacular si cabe. 

 

We made our way to the valley with the intention of getting some food for the night. On the way, we passed by El Capitan, an enormous granite monolith of almost 3000 feet. We stopped to take some pictures, and then we realized there were people on it! You could see a small red dot, and with the help of the camera zoom you could actually see a person chilling on the ledge. Amazing!

Ya en el super hicimos la compra y directos al camping. Martín se encargó del fuego y yo de sacar todas las cosas del coche que pudieran desprender un olor interesante para los osos, es decir, comida, cremas, maquillaje, etc. todo los que nos comentaron al entrar al parque. Todo esto hay que meterlo en unas cajas especiales que hay en cada parcela. Y después de que te digan esto... duerme tú en una tienda de campaña, qué miedo! Aunque en realidad, dicen que estos osos, los osos negros, son bastante mansos y tienen miedo de la gente, así que si no ven comida se van sin más. En fin... yo de todas formas me fui a dormir un tanto intranquila, pero bueno...

We did your shopping at the general store in the valley, and rushed back before it got dark. I took care of the bonfire while Idoia made sure everything which may have an odor was removed from the car and put into the bear lockers. Idoia was a bit hesitant about sleeping in the tent after all the fuss about bears (understandably so I might add). She didn't take much convincing to sleep in the tent, as we were told black bears are very afraid of people and are pretty harmless (we'll see what happens when we enter grizzly country in yellowstone...).
