Andamos un poco lentos con el blog porque últimamente no tenemos mucha cobertura.
For once we stayed in the same state the entire day! After a long breakfast at the Travelodge where we meet a nice couple from Mississippi who told us about their travels, we got off to a bit of a late start. We headed east this time, towards the Petrified National Forest. The park was huge! The scenery was incredible, with the geography varying greatly from one part of the park to the next. Here are several pictures of just the varying landscape.

Por fin estuvimos todo un día en un mismo estado, Arizona! Como viene siendo costumbre no salimos a la hora que dijimos la noche anterior; esta vez porque estuvimos de cháchara con una pareja de Misisipi que conocimos durante el desayuno.
Nuestra primera visita fue el Bosque nacional petrificado, nadie diría que fue un bosque en algún momento. A cada km del parque el escenario cambia.

Near the end of the park we found the beautiful petrified logs. The colors were amazing, and some were difficult to discern from rocks.
Al final del parque dimos un paseo entre los árboles petrificados, es increíble ver que algo que fue madera, sea ahora piedra.
After petrified, we headed back west and made a stop at Meteor Crater. Although a bit pricey, it was well worth it. It's amazing to see such a well preserved meteor impact. You can really sense the immense power of the explosion as you stand there and overlook the huge crater.
Después nos fuimos al Cráter Barringer, que es el cráter hecho por un meteorito mejor conservado del mundo. La verdad que nos pareció un poco caro, pero mereció la pena.
Our next destination was... the Grand Canyon!!! On our way there, it started to rain a bit and the sky was becoming overcast (first time there any clouds since we started).
Y por fin, dirección al Gran cañón del Colorado, uno de los puntos fuertes de nuestro viaje. A medida que nos acercábamos al parque más verde era el paisaje.
We were hoping to camp inside the park, but by the time we got there it was already 5 PM and the campsites were full (it was a Saturday, so not too surprising since people reserve those places months ahead of time!). It was drizzling as we arrived, and we headed straight for the overlook. Although by this time the sky was completely overcast, the view blew us away. It's true what they say about the grand canyon, that pictures do not do it justice, and that even if you come in with outrageously high expectations, you will be amazed. On that note, we'll leave some pictures here, but if you have not visited this place, you must find the time to see it! We hope that in the next few days we will get at least a bit of sunlight so we can experience the view with the vibrant colors from the sun, although the forecast doesn't look too good.

Llegamos sobre las 17 y ya no había disponibilidad en ninguno de los camping, así que decidimos echar un vistazo al Gran cañón; a pesar de que estaba nublado la vista fue una pasada. La verdad que las fotos que se ven de este lugar no le hacen justicia, hay que venir para ver lo impresionante que es. Esperamos que en los próximos días haga mejor tiempo para poder disfrutar de las vistas, aunque las previsiones no son muy buenas… :-( Llegando a la salida del parque pudimos ver varios alces.
The night ended up a bit stressful, as it was (obviously) difficult to find a place to sleep for the night. We finally ended up finding a vacant room at the Knights Inn in Williams, AZ, about an hour from the park. Tomorrow (Sunday) there is available camping at the park at the Mather Campground so we will try to get an early start and pick up a site to set up. Hopefully it doesn't rain too much! We aren't sure how many nights we will stay at the park. We'll play it by ear!
La noche terminó siendo un poco estresante porque, lógicamente, no fue fácil encontrar alojamiento. Terminamos en Williams, un pueblo a una hora del parque. Mañana hay disponibilidad en los camping, así que esperamos poder tener nuestra primera experiencia en una tienda de campaña. Aún no sabemos cuantas noches nos quedaremos, decidiremos sobre la marcha.

2ºMuy interesante el cráter, ¿Cuándo ocurrió el impácto, cuál fue el impácto climático y/o geológico...? Espero respuestas científicamente veraces!
la primera pregunta, ni idea, nos has pillado! sobre la segunda, por supuesto que le acribille a preguntas al pobre guia. fue hace 50,000 años, mas o menos. y a todo esto, por donde anda alvaro?
