Day 17: Segundo día en Yosemite / Second day in Yosemite

Nos levantamos temprano porque queríamos aprovechar el día, recogimos en tiempo récord y nos pusimos en marcha hacia la zona del parque donde hay varias secuoyas. Antes de llegar nos paramos a desayunar con un bonito paisaje de fondo. Por cierto, la noche muy tranquila, ni rastro de osos o eso nos pareció. 

We woke up early since we wanted to see as much of Yosemite as we could before continuing on our trip. Before going to our first destination, we stopped to have breakfast at a beautiful little creek. 

Llegamos al bosque Mariposa donde hay una pequeña concentración de secuoyas. Subimos una buena cuesta, pero mereció la pena porque en el paseo que hicimos luego de bajada no había casi nadie y pudimos disfrutar tranquilamente del paisaje. 

Our first stop was Mariposa Grove to look at the sequoias. The hike up to the grove was uphill, but well worth it. We were alone in the nature path, and the smells and sounds, not to mention the sights, were amazing.

Son tres secuoyas, la de más abajo tiene solo un año, la del medio 2 y la de arriba 4. Increíble lo grandes que se hacen luego!

La siguiente parada, el Glacier point, un punto desde donde hay unas preciosas vistas panorámicas del parque. 

Next stop, Glacier Point. It offered great views of both the Nevada and Vernal Falls, as well as the half dome.

Luego nos cogimos el autobús del parque para ir al punto donde comienza una excursión hasta dos de las cataratas del parque. En Yosemite hay bastante cataratas, pero por las fechas que son, no tienen todas agua, asi que fuimos a estas dos que nos dijeron que sí tenían. En concreto vimos la catarata Vernal porque no nos daba tiempo para llegar a la otra. 

Before leaving the park, we took one last hike to see Vernal falls from the bottom. Vernal and Nevada falls were the only two waterfalls with water at the park, given the time of year and the extreme drought. We didn't have enough time to hike to the top of either of the falls, so we were happy with seeing it from below.

Para las 19 nos pusimos en camino hacia el lago Tahoe, donde habíamos reservado en el hotel Apex inn de South Lake Tahoe. Salimos del parque por la zona oeste y en esa parte si que se podía apreciar el rastro dejado por el incendio. La verdad es que daba bastante pena verlo, esperemos que puedan controlarlo cuanto antes. 

At 7 PM we finally left, headed towards our next stop, Lake Tahoe. No camping tonight, as we would be arriving quite late, so we chose the Apex Inn. We left from the west, and on the way out we could see the damage caused by the fire. In fact we even passed by some smoking trees on the way out. It was sad to see, and hopefully they manage to get it contained soon!
