Day 18: Lago Tahoe y la ciudad de Virginia / Lake Tahoe and Virginia city

Nos despertamos con un día nublado, pero no decayeron nuestros ánimos porque el plan no era de andar mucho, sino más bien tranquilo. Buscamos un buen sitio para desayunar, Heidi's pancake house, y comimos tranquilamente mientras planeábamos el día. 

We woke up to a cloudy day, but we weren't too worried because out plan for the day involved little walking and mostly sightseeing. We had breakfast at Heidi's pancake house while we planned our day. 






Al salir ya estaba lloviendo, así que el lago Tahoe no lucía en todo su esplendor, pero pude apreciar lo bonito que era (Martín ya lo conocía). Estoy segura que volveré algún día cuando volvamos a visitar a John, así que no me molestó demasiado el mal tiempo. 

At this point it started raining, and as we got in the car to see the lake, we realized it was all clouded over. We at least went to Emerald Bay and got a decent view, despite the rain. I have been there before, and I am sure we will be back sometime when we go to visit John, so we weren't too upset.

Tras hacer varias paradas de rigor alrededor del lago, decidimos partir hacia la ciudad de Virginia. Allí nos respetó un poco la lluvia y pudimos pasear tranquilamente por la calle principal del pueblo, toda llena de tiendecitas y bares super curiosos, por ejemplo, el Bucket O' Blood donde nos tomamos unas cervezas. Virginia es un antiguo pueblo minero que cuando se acabó la plata y el oro quedó totalmente abandonado. Se han debido grabar varias películas y series en esta ciudad, entre ellas, Bonanza. Por cierto, para desgracia de Martín no conseguimos foto del cartel de bienvenido a California porque no había ninguno!!!

After a few "scenic" stops around the lake, we decided to leave for Virginia City. We crossed over into Nevada, but just like when we crossed into California to Death Valley, there were no welcome signs, so it looks like no Welcome to California sign for this trip! As we left Lake Tahoe, the sky cleared up and the rain stopped, so we were able to walk around Virginia City with nice weather. It is an old silver mining town, with a lot of neat little shops and bars (I especially like Bucket O' Blood). It also happens to be the site of the Ponderosa Ranch from Bonanza. 

Como se puso otra vez a llover bastante fuerte y ya lo habíamos visto prácticamente todo, nos pusimos en marcha para poder llegar a una hora decente a Elko. Un pueblo que está en Nevada y que debe haber mucho descendete de vasco, de hecho, al lado del hotel en el que estamos hay un restaurante vasco, Toki ona. 

By mid-afternoon it started to rain, so we left east to head towards Yellowstone. We made a tactical stop in Elko, NV to catch some sleep at the Days Inn. Elko happens to have a lot of basque descendants and holds a well-known basque festival in July (they just celebrated their 50th anniversary). Right next to the hotel there is a restaurant called Toki ona, which translates roughly to "nice place".
